Security alarm and CCTV installation tenders

A security alarm tender is a contract to install or maintain intruder alarms, access control or CCTV at government sites — a different stream from guarding, priced per installation and maintenance term rather than per shift. Schools, clinics, courts and municipal buildings put this work out steadily, often bundled as “supply, installation and commissioning” of the whole electronic system.

PSIRA registration covers electronic-security installers as well as guarding companies, so it is still the gate to check first. Fire-detection and suppression work is usually specified separately from intruder alarms, and larger installations can carry an electrical-works component with its own requirements — the tender document will say which apply.

How to bid on a security tender

Whatever the buyer, the national rules apply first, and they are checked before your price is looked at:

• CSD registration — a free supplier number from the Central Supplier Database, verified against your bank account and your CIPC registration. How to register on the CSD →

• PSIRA registration — security work cannot be awarded to an unregistered provider, whatever your price. The tender will also name the officer grades it expects.
• The SBD forms in that tender's pack — signed, complete, no blanks. A missing or unsigned form is the single most common reason a first-time bid is thrown out.
