Public Works Tenders — open bids and RFQs, updated daily

Where Public Works is buying

Its open tenders by province — useful if you only serve one region:

The Public Works tender bulletin and eTenders, in one place

Looking for the Public Works tender bulletin, or trying to find Public Works on the eTenders portal? This page is that list, without the portal: every Public Works notice published on the National Treasury eTenders system, including RFQs (requests for quotation) for smaller jobs, updated daily. Finding them is the easy half — qualifying to bid is where most suppliers fall over.

How to bid on a Public Works tender

Public Works buys as an organ of state, so the national rules apply: you must be registered on the Central Supplier Database, be tax compliant with SARS, and hold the right CIDB grading for construction work. Those are checked before your price is ever considered.

Every Public Works tender pack contains the same standard bidding documents, and an unsigned or blank one is thrown out before the price is read:

• SBD 4 — Bidder's Disclosure, where you declare any connection to someone employed by the state. SBD 4 explained →
• SBD 6.1 — Preference Points, the form your B-BBEE level is actually claimed on. SBD 6.1 explained →
• SBD 9 — Certificate of Independent Bid Determination, your declaration that the bid was priced without collusion. SBD 9 explained →
• The rest of the pack — which forms appear depends on the tender type. All the SBD forms → · Open, closed, RFQ and RFP →

Past the basics, each Public Works tender sets its own mandatory returnables. Tender Ready SA Pro reads every one of them and gives you that checklist in plain English.

How Public Works buys

State-owned companies and national entities procure under the PFMA and National Treasury regulations, so the process is standardised nationally — CSD registration and tax compliance are checked the same way across every PFMA buyer.

National, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape public works are different departments

"Public works" is not one buyer in South Africa. This page lists the national Department of Public Works and Infrastructure only — the department that owns and maintains the state's own property portfolio and accommodates other national departments in it. Every province runs its own public works department, with its own budget, its own bid committees and its own tender numbers, and a bid submitted to the wrong one is simply not a bid.

The two provincial departments that tender most heavily have their own pages here: KZN Public Works tenders covers the KwaZulu-Natal head office at Pietermaritzburg, and Eastern Cape Roads and Public Works tenders covers ECDPW, which carries the provincial road network as well as the buildings. The remaining provincial departments publish under their own names and appear on their province pages.
