Cleaning Tenders in South Africa

School cleaning contracts and government-building cleaning

School cleaning contracts are tendered by provincial education departments and by the schools themselves, usually per school or per district, with the staffing level and cleaning schedule written into the specification. Government-building cleaning runs through Public Works and municipalities, and hospital and clinic hygiene through the health departments — the same trade, but the hospital stream carries stricter infection-control and chemical requirements.

All three streams are priced per site against the stated staffing and frequency, and the multi-year terms are what make them worth chasing: a two- or three-year cleaning contract at one site is steadier income than most once-off supply work.

How to bid on a cleaning tender

• CSD registration — a free supplier number from the Central Supplier Database, verified against your bank account and your CIPC registration. How to register on the CSD →
• Tax compliance — a valid SARS Tax Compliance Status PIN, compliant on the closing date rather than on the day you started. How to get your TCS PIN →
• B-BBEE certificate or affidavit — this is what you claim preference points against on SBD 6.1. Under R10 million turnover it is a free sworn affidavit. How to get a B-BBEE certificate or affidavit →
• The SBD forms in that tender's pack — signed, complete, no blanks. A missing or unsigned form is the single most common reason a first-time bid is thrown out. SBD forms explained → — in practice that means SBD 4 (bidder's disclosure), SBD 6.1 (preference points) and SBD 9 (independent bid determination).
• A company profile — most cleaning tenders ask for one, and it is scored on experience, capacity and compliance rather than on presentation. company profile for tenders →
