SANParks manages South Africa's national parks, from Kruger and Addo to Table Mountain. Its procurement is unlike any other state buyer's because its sites are remote and environmentally sensitive: park road and fence maintenance, anti-poaching and security services, rest-camp and tourism-facility upkeep, waste and water services far from municipal networks, and catering or retail concessions inside the parks. Contractors who can mobilise to a remote site and work under conservation conditions face far less competition here than in metro tenders.
